Alex’s heart skipped a beat when he saw her in front of him. She was standing in the hallway, looking out the window.
He leaned closer, to see what was she looking at, and frowned.
“Hey, Bambi.” Alex said, loudly, while taking a book from a pile in her hands.
“What?” She turned around, and for a moment, she really looked like a small deer, her big eyes fixated on him. Then she frowned.
“Bambi, really? What do you want, Alex?”
“Well, I saw you had a deer-in-the-headlights situation, so I came to save you from a car crash. Which lan inevitably is.”
“I wasn’t looking at hi – ” She stopped, then whispered. “Why do you care, anyway? It’s none of your business who I look at.”
Alex clenched the book in his hand.
“Give that back, will you?”
“Just what are you reading, Hannah?”
She scoffed. It was even weirder when he called her by her name.
“If you don’t like me calling you by your name, I have no choice but to call you Bambi.”
Her heart started beating loudly. She looked at him, not knowing is he making fun of her again or is this something else.
Since this year started, he began picking at her, showing up wherever she is – and he always had something to say about how she acted or how she looked. They have been neighbors for years, and he never showed interest in talking to her – not to mention getting to know her, until this year. If she didn’t know better, she would think he likes her.
“Just give me the book back, Alex.”
Alex leaned in, glanced at the cover of the book, and smirked.
“Think of me while reading it.”
Hannah blushed and pushed him away. She took her book and went inside the classroom.
“You know she thinks you’re a giant a**, right?”
“She’s not wrong, Lucas.” He said to his friend. “But she’s not completely right, either.”
“Okay, stop this siege nonsense- you’ll never conquer that one.”
Alex tapped Lucas on the shoulder and smiled, going into the classroom.
