“Why are you calling me? You never call me.” Olivia picked up her phone the moment it rang.
“’Cause you weren’t answering my texts.” Grace retorted.
“I thought your cat died, or something. Don’t scare me like that, Grace.”
“You’re going tonight, right?”
“I can’t. My parents won’t let me.”
“You can just tell them we’ll be studying at my place or something. My mom will say you’re here.”
“I can’t. I’m on thin ice as it is.”
“But, it’s disco night.”
Olivia was sure Grace was pouting. She knew exactly where she was sitting, how she must be playing with her hair and looking at the mirror on her makeup table. She smiled.
“You did buy those ginormous boots just for disco night.”
“I did, didn’t I, Olive?” Grace lightly punched her table. “And you should be there.”
“And why is that?”
“Well, I heard a certain someone will be there, too.”
“You mean-“
“Your own bad boy, Danny Zuko wannabe, will be there.”
“Once. I said that he looks a bit like him, once.”
“Sure. You can drop that good girl act with me, O.”
“I’m not- Anyway, I wish I could go, but after that incident, my parents are like hawks. The only space without them is my room, and even that seems like a prison.”
“See, you’re not such a good girl. They don’t get grounded.”
“Grace.”
“And they don’t stay in, even if they are.”
Olivia smiled, thinking about sneaking out.
“I heard he’s leaving for college soon.” Grace continued. “Who knows when you might get your chance again.”
Olivia paced through her room, listening to Grace’s speech.
“And you know, someone said that you won’t regret what you did in life, but what you didn’t do.”
“Fine. Fine. Just let me make sure my parents are in their bedroom and not trying to spy on me, and I’ll text you.”
“That’s my girl.” Grace exclaimed. “Get your butt here fast, we need to get ready!”
“If I get in more trouble-“
“It will be worth it.”
Grace smiled and ended the call.
